Soroti City — Mayoral aspirant for Soroti City East Division, Abdul Latif Wali, on Tuesday engaged residents of Aloet in Arapai as he intensified his grassroots campaign, calling for unity within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and renewed focus on industrial development as a driver of economic growth.
Latif began his visit by meeting local NRM leadership and mobilization structures, where discussions centered on strengthening coordination, enhancing voter mobilization, and maintaining party cohesion ahead of the forthcoming elections. He emphasized that unity within the party remains critical for securing victory and delivering meaningful development across Soroti City East Division.
Addressing community members later in the day, Latif urged residents to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all NRM flag bearers contesting at various levels within the city. He described the NRM as a party rooted in stability and continuity, arguing that a united leadership team would be better positioned to implement government programs and respond to the needs of urban communities.
While promoting the broader NRM agenda, Abdul Latif also made a direct appeal for support in his bid for Mayor of Soroti City East Division. He outlined his vision for accountable leadership, improved service delivery, and a cleaner, better-organized city. Latif assured residents that his leadership would prioritize inclusivity and regular engagement with the electorate.
A key highlight of his address was a pledge to lobby for government-backed industries to address unemployment, particularly among the youth. Latif noted that attracting investment in agro-processing, manufacturing, and small-scale enterprises would stimulate local economic activity and provide sustainable livelihoods for residents.
“We must move beyond promises and focus on real solutions. Industries bring jobs, and jobs restore dignity to our people,” Latif told the gathering.
Latif’s visit was marked by close interaction with residents as he moved through wards and cells in Aloet, listening to community concerns and reaffirming his commitment to grassroots leadership. Supporters described the engagement as a sign of a campaign grounded in accessibility and service.
As the election period approaches, Abdul Latif Wali’s campaign continues to gain momentum, anchored on party unity, industrial growth, and people-centered leadership aimed at transforming Soroti City East Division.
