SOROTI - heavy cloud of grief has engulfed the Teso sub-region as the body of Elotu John Raymond, a devoted Teso Province football fan, finally arrived in Soroti City, marking the beginning of his painful final journey home.

The body was received late sunday night at around 11:30 PM and taken to Bethesda Mortuary for preservation, as family, friends, and leaders struggle to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss of a young life full of passion and hope. Elotu, born on June 26, 1998, met his untimely death on April 4, 2026, following a tragic incident during a FUFA Drum match a tournament that has long been a symbol of unity, identity, and pride among the Iteso people.

What was meant to be a moment of joy and togetherness quickly turned into a nightmare, leaving the entire region in shock. Reports indicate that Elotu sustained fatal injuries after a structure where fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of the game gave way. He was rushed for medical attention but sadly did not survive. His death has left a deep wound in the hearts of many across Teso.

The FUFA Drum, a competition that brings together different districts and unites the Iteso through football, now carries a painful memory one that has turned cheers into tears. “This is not just the loss of a fan, but the loss of a brother, a son, and a symbol of the unity we share,” one mourner said, as emotions ran high among those who gathered to receive his body.

According to family and local leaders, Elotu will be laid to rest this Saturday in Ooumai Village, Ojama Parish, Katine Sub-county in Dakabela County, Soroti District. Preparations are underway for what many describe as a deeply emotional farewell, as the community comes together to give him the send-off he deserves.

Leaders have called upon well-wishers and the wider community to support the family during this difficult time, emphasizing the need to stand together just as Elotu did in life through his unwavering love for his people and his team.

As Teso mourns, one thing remains clear: the voice that once cheered so loudly in the stands is now silent, but the memory of Elotu John Raymond will forever echo in the hearts of a united people.
