The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has intervened in a developing land dispute following unverified claims of a property sale, while simultaneously taking action to prevent possible flooding risks in the area.

According to KCCA spokesperson Daniel NuweAbine, the authority is still in the early stages of establishing the facts surrounding the ownership of the land in question. He explained that although there are reports suggesting that the original occupant may have sold the property, these claims remain unconfirmed pending official verification from the relevant land records.

NuweAbine noted that preliminary information indicates the individual who previously had interest in the land is reportedly pursuing payment of an outstanding balance. However, he emphasized that KCCA has not yet accessed the land department records to authenticate these assertions, cautioning against drawing conclusions before investigations are complete.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding ownership, KCCA has already taken enforcement measures targeting the current occupant of the property. Officials have reportedly served notices, and enforcement teams have visited the site to ensure compliance with city regulations.

The intervention also comes amid concerns over blocked drainage channels on the land, which could pose a serious flooding risk, particularly during the rainy season. KCCA teams have since moved in to remove stones and other materials that were obstructing water flow, a step NuweAbine described as necessary to safeguard surrounding communities from potential damage.

He stressed that the authority’s immediate priority is to mitigate any environmental and public safety risks, even as investigations continue into the legal status of the land. NuweAbine further warned that anyone found responsible for illegal activities, including unauthorized developments or improper land transactions, will be held accountable under the law.

KCCA has reiterated its commitment to enforcing urban planning regulations and protecting public infrastructure, noting that all land use within the city must comply with established legal and environmental standards. The authority says it will provide further updates once the verification process is complete and the full facts surrounding the disputed property are established.
