A growing political shift within Uganda’s parliamentary circles is reportedly leaving Outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Among increasingly isolated as several influential Members of Parliament and political allies move their support to Oboth Oboth ahead of future leadership battles in Parliament.

The unfolding developments come amid mounting scrutiny surrounding allegations of extravagant spending and unexplained wealth linked to the Speaker. Reports that the Inspector General of Government (IGG) had initiated investigations into Anita Among’s financial dealings intensified public debate, especially following claims that she acquired a Rolls-Royce vehicle reportedly valued at UGX 3.4 billion.

The luxury purchase quickly became a national talking point, with critics questioning the source of the money used to acquire the high-end vehicle at a time when many Ugandans continue to face economic hardship. Political observers say the controversy has not only damaged Among’s public image but has also triggered unease among her close political associates.

A major turning point reportedly came after Muhoozi Kainerugaba publicly distanced himself from the Speaker. According to sources within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Muhoozi expressed shock over the luxury vehicle, reportedly noting that even President Yoweri Museveni had never owned or used such a car. His remarks are said to have influenced several PLU-aligned politicians to reconsider their loyalty to Anita Among.

Among those now reportedly backing Oboth Oboth is David Kabanda, once regarded as one of Anita Among’s closest political allies. Peter Ogwang, the MP for Ngariam County, has also been linked to the growing camp supporting Oboth Oboth.

Political commentators have compared the situation to the biblical story of Judas Iscariot, describing it as a moment of betrayal where trusted allies appear to be abandoning a once-powerful political figure at a critical time. Despite the growing speculation, Anita Among has not publicly addressed the alleged political fallout, while Oboth Oboth has remained cautious about the reports of rising support within Parliament.
