SOROTI - Bob Owiny officially began his tenure as the LC5 Chairperson of Soroti District with a prayer and dedication ceremony, underscoring his commitment to faith-based leadership and public service.
The prayers, held at the Soroti District Headquarters, brought together political leaders, civil servants, clergy, and residents to dedicate the district administration and its activities to God before the commencement of official duties.
Addressing the gathering, Owiny said prayer and spiritual guidance would form the foundation of his leadership throughout his term in office.
“We are here to pray for the political leadership, civil servants, and all the people who are here. We want to dedicate ourselves, bless the offices, and bless everything we are going to use before we officially begin work,” he said.
Owiny revealed that he had intentionally refrained from using district property, including the official LC5 vehicle, before it had been prayed for and blessed by church leaders.
“Even the vehicle assigned to me, I have not entered it or touched it. I wanted to start work only after prayers and blessings,” he explained.
The district chairperson described the event as a symbolic beginning for a new administration focused on integrity, unity, and service delivery.
He also announced plans to institutionalize annual district prayer breakfasts that would bring together religious leaders from various denominations to pray for the district and its leadership.
“At least every year, we shall have a district prayer breakfast where bishops and religious leaders will join us to thank God for what we have achieved and seek guidance for the future,” Owiny said.
The LC5 chairperson praised the role of the Church of Uganda in mentoring leaders and supporting education and community development in the region.
He specifically commended church leadership for the growth of Bethany School, noting that the institution had expanded from 76 students to nearly 1,000 students over the years.
Owiny further pledged district support toward church activities and diocesan events, including preparations for the visit of Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.
He emphasized his commitment to inclusive leadership, promising to serve all communities within Soroti District fairly and work closely with both political and religious leaders to promote development.
“You advised me to honor all tribes and begin with God, and I will continue to follow that guidance,” he said while addressing church leaders.
Owiny concluded by thanking the clergy and residents for their support during his political journey, pledging to use his office to serve the people diligently and responsibly.
“Without your prayers and support, I would not be where I am today. We are going to use whatever God has placed in our hands to serve the people,” he said.
