SOROTI - Bishop Kosea Odongo has urged leaders in Soroti District to focus on service delivery and accountability, calling on public officials to prioritize action over rhetoric as the district begins a new leadership term.

The bishop made the remarks during a prayer service held at the Soroti District headquarters to officially welcome the new district administration led by Bob Owiny. The event was attended by district staff, civil servants, political leaders, and members of the public.

Addressing the gathering, Bishop Odongo emphasized the importance of humility, integrity, and responsible leadership, reminding leaders that public office is a position of trust that should be used to improve the welfare of the people.

“Work more and talk less. Let people see the results of your leadership through action,” the bishop said, urging district officials to address the challenges affecting communities across the district.

He noted that effective leadership requires understanding the needs of the people and finding practical solutions to their problems, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, public services, and community welfare.

The bishop also warned leaders against corruption and misuse of public resources, saying dishonest practices undermine development and erode public confidence in government institutions. He encouraged officials to remain transparent and accountable in the execution of district programs and projects.

Bishop Odongo further appealed for teamwork and unity among leaders and technical staff, stressing that cooperation is essential for effective governance and improved service delivery.

Drawing from biblical teachings and leadership principles, he urged leaders to exercise moral integrity and self-discipline while serving the public. He also encouraged officials to support one another and avoid internal conflicts that could hinder progress within the district administration.

The cleric concluded by calling on the new leadership to remain committed to serving citizens with honesty and dedication, adding that responsible leadership would contribute to sustainable development in the district.

The prayer service marked the formal beginning of a new administrative phase in Soroti District as the local community hope for improved governance and service delivery under the new leadership.
