SOROTI DISTRICT - Tubur Primary School in Soroti District is set to benefit from major improvements following a commitment by Calvin Echodu, the Member of Parliament for Soroti City West and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Designate), to address key challenges affecting learners at the school.

Echodu made the pledge on Saturday while speaking at a celebration ceremony held in honor of Bob Owiny following his election as the LC5 Chairperson of Soroti District. The event attracted local residents, education stakeholders, cultural leaders, political leaders and members of the community.

During his address, Echodu responded to concerns raised about the condition of Tubur Primary School and pledged to construct a boys' toilet block. He also committed to restoring the school's water supply system, which has been a long-standing challenge for learners and staff.

The commitments were welcomed by parents and community members, who described them as timely interventions that will improve the welfare of pupils and create a better learning environment.

Elubu James, a parent at the school, said the lack of water has been a major concern for learners and their families.

"My son has often told me about the challenges they face because of the lack of water at school. Water is essential for hygiene, health and learning. We are grateful that Hon. Echodu has pledged to restore the water system and support the school. This will greatly benefit our children," he said.

Community elder Apio Martha praised Echodu for his continued generosity and dedication to community development.

"I have witnessed Echodu's good work even before he became a Member of Parliament. He has always extended a helping hand to communities and vulnerable people. I believe that now that he is an MP and Minister-Designate of State for Foreign Affairs, many more people will benefit from his leadership. His commitment to supporting Tubur Primary School will be remembered for generations," she said.

Parents and education stakeholders noted that access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities is critical to promoting a safe and healthy learning environment. They expressed optimism that the planned projects will improve hygiene standards, enhance learners' well-being and contribute to better academic performance.

The pledges have renewed hope among parents, teachers and learners, who believe the projects will help address some of the school's most pressing needs and contribute to its long-term development. Once implemented, the construction of the boys' toilet block and restoration of the water supply system are expected to leave a lasting impact on the lives of learners at Tubur Primary School.
