Nollywood suffers another devastating blow as actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, widely known as Jnr Pope, tragically loses his life in a boating accident while filming in Nigeria's Delta state.

The Nigerian film industry, already reeling from recent losses including John Okafor (Mr Ibu) and Amaechi Muonagor, is plunged into shock and sorrow yet again.

Reports indicate that Junior Pope and three colleagues were returning from a movie shoot when their boat capsized in Anam River, Anambra State. Despite initial efforts to revive him, the actor couldn't make it.

National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and recounting the failed attempts to save Junior Pope's life.

Videos circulating on social media depict rescuers retrieving the unconscious actor from the river, highlighting the harrowing nature of the accident.

Earlier on the day of the tragedy, Junior Pope had voiced concerns about safety measures during the boat journey, underscoring the need for caution.

Renowned for his versatile roles, Junior Pope leaves behind a grieving widow and three children, leaving a void in the industry he adorned with his talent.

His ascent to fame in the industry began with his role in the acclaimed Nollywood movie "Secret Adventures" directed by Tchidi Chikere in 2007. He further solidified his status by winning the Nollywood Most Promising Actor award in 2010.

The loss of Junior Pope reverberates throughout the Nollywood community, with fellow actors expressing their condolences and mourning his untimely departure.
