SERERE - A shocking case of suspected murder by strangulation has left the community in Sapiri Cell, Kangodo Ward, Ocaapa Town Council, Serere District in shock after an 18-year-old student of Homeward Secondary School was found dead in her room on June 12, 2024.
According to a press statement issued by ASP Obukulem Edison, the acting Pro East Kyoga, the death of the victim identified as Apio Scovia, a daughter to Mr. Eotu David and a student of S3 at Homeward Secondary School in Serere District, was discovered by her brother Osako Tom.
"At around 0400 hours, the brother of the deceased went outside for a short call but on coming back, he met his sister Apio (now the deceased) also going for a short call. After around five minutes, the brother heard a pig making noise and he suspected something had gone wrong, prompting him to move out and see a certain man coming from his sister's room."
"He tried running after him but failed to catch him and couldn't identify him at that time. The brother then went to his sister's room and found her dead. That's when he informed their father. The matter was then reported to CPS Serere vide CRB:285/2024."
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had received death threats from her boyfriend, one Ajotu Philip, on June 8, 2024, but the issues were not reported to the relevant authorities. It's also believed that the deceased had misunderstandings with her boyfriend upon realizing that he was in love with her best friend.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to the mortuary for postmortem.
"No arrest has been made so far. However, our officers are working round the clock to ensure that the culprit is brought to book," ASP Obukulem added.
He further cautioned members of the public to desist from all forms of violence and to report their matters to the police as they occur.
