Construction of Soroti High value addition market begins next month

Total technical site hand over for the construction of high value addition market in Soroti Municipality took place yesterday amidst fracas from vendors.


The Municipal authority had relocated Oparai market vendors along Jumabahai Street where they are currently constructing their structures as the construction of the high level value addition market kick starts by 5thFebruary this year unfortunately on thursday  night unknown person who is purportedly alleged to be having interest in the same land in concern went and demolished the structures and this created high tension and fear amidst vendors.


Moses Otimong, the town clerk Soroti Municipality said investigation into the matter shall be done and whoever is found to be having a hand in the damaged caused will be liable to compensate losses incurred by the vendors.


Construction of Soroti Municipal high level value addition market is 2 month behind the expected time of commencement as contract was signed on the 21st of December last year according to the contract manager Phillip Pichan Cwinyaai who also doubles as the infrastructure engineer with ministry of local government.


However, the site was handed over to the Coronation developers Uganda, a construction company last evening at Oparia market.


The project which is amounting to UGX 18 billion is expected to be completed within 18 months.
