Soroti District — The newly elected leadership of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Soroti District is set to establish a functional district office aimed at revitalizing party operations and strengthening grassroots engagement.

Following the recently concluded NRM mainstream elections, key leadership positions were filled, including Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko as Chairperson, Patrick Aeku as Vice Chairperson, Joseph Ebanu as Treasurer, and Bob Owiny as Secretary for Publicity.

Bob Owiny, who also serves as the District Councilor for Tubur and is a Local Council Five (LC5) aspirant, vowed to ensure that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni garners over 80% of the vote in Soroti District in the next election. He emphasized his commitment to uniting party members and promoting development initiatives that align with the NRM’s broader vision.

“As NRM leaders, our collective responsibility is to rally the masses behind our party, ensuring Soroti gains from national appointments such as ministerial roles and RDC positions,” Owiny said, highlighting his ambition for the district to benefit from political and development opportunities.

Hon. Ariko, who is also the Member of Parliament for Soroti City East, pledged to prioritize the establishment of a well-resourced and fully functional NRM office in the district. According to him, this will serve as a central hub for party activities and a space to foster unity among members.

“The new office will not be a venue for internal wrangles, but a platform for strategic planning, accountability, and citizen engagement,” said Ariko.

Vice Chairperson Patrick Aeku, also the MP for Soroti County, echoed similar sentiments, expressing his readiness to work with fellow leaders to build a united, people-centered NRM structure in Soroti.

“The future of the party in Soroti lies in unity, collective effort, and service delivery. We must walk together in pursuit of this goal,” Aeku stated.

The office is expected to support essential party functions such as policy formulation, information dissemination, resource mobilization, and oversight of government projects in the district.

With a rejuvenated leadership and the planned establishment of a district NRM office, Soroti’s political landscape could witness enhanced coordination, improved public service delivery, and deeper party-rooted community participation.
