SOROTI :Miraculous Synagogues Church has distributed liquid soap to Christians and trained members in soap making as part of an initiative aimed at equipping people with practical skills to improve their livelihoods.
The initiative, according to the church, is intended to complement spiritual support with income-generating skills that can enable members to become more self-reliant and contribute to their households and communities.
Pastor Georwell Emanu said the church wants to create an environment where people can seek both spiritual guidance and practical assistance to address challenges affecting their lives.
“We are doing this because we want to build the church as a place where somebody can get help,” Emanu said.
He explained that the church is training members in soap making and other practical activities so they can use the acquired skills to earn a living.
Emanu said the soap-making programme has attracted significant interest, particularly among women, and the church plans to expand the initiative to benefit more people.
“We are trying to train people to make soap or other things so that they can use them to earn a living,” he said.
Beyond soap making, Emanu revealed that the church has also trained a team of young men in the production of paving blocks. Some of the pavers produced by the trainees have already been used within the church premises.
Emanu said the church's focus on practical skills is inspired by the life of Jesus Christ, whom he noted worked as a carpenter.
“I drive this from the life of Jesus. He loved work; he was a carpenter. That is where I picked the inspiration from,” Emanu said.
The church says it intends to strengthen the programme by expanding skills training and creating more opportunities for members, particularly women and young people, to engage in productive activities and improve their livelihoods.
