Singer Daxx Vibez has ruled out joining the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), saying he remains unconvinced about the purpose of the organisation despite discussions with some of its members and other musicians.
Daxx Vibez, speaking on Galaxy TV, said he had previously spoken to Butter and singer Pallaso about UNMF but failed to agree with their views about the federation.
“I spoke to Butter. He didn’t understand about UNMF. I also spoke to Pallaso, trying to explain it to him, and he didn’t understand,” he said.
“That is why I am not a registered member of the federation. I don’t believe in the real aim of UNMF.”
The singer then linked the federation to his elder brother, National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
“UNMF was made to silence Bobi Wine,” Daxx Vibez alleged. “Even the federation was made to get government funds. That is why I am not a member.”
The comments were aired as Galaxy TV questioned his decision to stay outside the federation, which is led by musician Eddy Kenzo.
Asked whether he would reconsider if UNMF invited him for a meeting to explain its objectives, Daxx Vibez rejected the possibility. “I cannot,” he said.
He maintained the same position when the interviewer asked whether he would attend if the federation promised to explain its plans in extraordinary terms.
Daxx Vibez also criticised the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS), calling for the organisation to be closed.
“UPRS needs to be closed,” he said, claiming that the organisation still owes musicians money from before Uganda’s copyright law came into force.
He cited singer Weasel as having received Shs100,000 and said he had never received any payment from the organisation.
“They gave Weasel one hundred thousand, and I have never received any coin,” he said.
Neither Kenzo nor UNMF had responded to Daxx Vibez’s remarks by the time of publication.
The claims concerning UNMF and UPRS remain allegations made by Daxx Vibez.
