KALAKI - Police in Kalaki have apprehended two suspects found in possession of a stolen bull, revealing a network of cattle rustling in the area.
The suspects, identified as Byaruhanga John and Opar George, both adult males, were captured on July 8, 2024, at approximately 5:00 am in Awidi village, Kadie parish, Otuboi sub-county, Kalaki district.
Authorities caught the suspects off guard as they attempted to transport the stolen bull in the trunk of a black RAV4 bearing registration number UAQ 787G.
Kalaki's District Police Commander (DPC), SP Maumbe Jacksomn, acted on a tip-off from the Officer in Charge of the Integrated Highway Patrol at Otuboi. He promptly dispatched a team of officers led by ASP Bwanika Francis from Kalaki station to the scene.
With assistance from local leaders and community members, the police intercepted the vehicle and re-arrested the suspects after a brief attempt to flee. The motor vehicle was impounded and taken to Kalaki CPS for further investigation.
ASP Obukulem Edison, acting Public Relations Officer of East Kyoga, confirmed that the suspects have been charged with cattle theft under CRB 158/2024 of CPS Kalaki.
