As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) gears up for its Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections, former presidential aspirant and current mobilizer for President Yoweri Museveni, Ntalo Vincent Gonzaga, has made a bold call for leadership renewal within the party.
In a recent interview with Teso Vibez, Ntalo declared that the time has come for long-serving leaders to step aside and make way for new, dynamic figures who can inject fresh energy into the NRM.
Ntalo specifically pointed to Captain Mike Mukula, the current Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, saying his time in the party’s top leadership has run its course. He urged Mukula to pave the way for David Calvin Ecodu, a younger politician Ntalo believes represents the future of the party in the region. “Mukula’s time is up,” Ntalo stated firmly. “He has served the party well, but we cannot build a future on leaders who refuse to let go. We need to give others a chance to lead.”
In addition to endorsing Ecodu, Ntalo also threw his support behind Rt. Hon. Speaker Anita Annet Among for the position of Second Vice Chairperson (Female). He praised Among for her exceptional contributions to Uganda’s governance and argued that her leadership qualities would be a strong asset within the CEC.
According to Ntalo, her inclusion would not only empower women within the party but also reinforce the NRM’s commitment to transformational leadership.
Ntalo emphasized that the strength of the NRM lies in its ability to evolve. He called on delegates to be courageous and forward-thinking in their choices during the upcoming elections. For the NRM to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of Ugandans, he said, it must embrace change and nurture the next generation of leaders.
