Elon Musk has agreed to settle a128 million lawsuit filed by four top former Twitter executives he dismissed shortly after acquiring the social media company in 2022. The agreement comes amid a series of legal battles stemming from Musk’s management of Twitter, now rebranded as X.
The plaintiffs in the case include Parag Agrawal, the former CEO; Ned Segal, former Chief Financial Officer; Vijaya Gadde, the former Chief Legal Officer; and Sean Edgett, former General Counsel. The group claimed Musk owed them a combined 128 million in unpaid severance and benefits after they were abruptly terminated.
According to court documents, the settlement is conditional and hinges on unspecified terms being met. If those conditions are not fulfilled, the lawsuit is set to resume on October 31.
The executives allege they were fired within minutes of Musk assuming control of Twitter after finalizing the44 billion acquisition in late 2022. In the complaint, they claimed Musk acted in bad faith and has a pattern of withholding compensation until forced to settle in court.
The settlement adds to a growing list of legal challenges Musk faces in relation to X. In addition to the executive suit, Musk’s company is also battling multiple lawsuits from laid-off employees and former managers who similarly accuse X of denying contractually obligated severance payments.
While Musk and X have not publicly commented on the settlement, legal analysts say the move may be an attempt to avoid prolonged litigation and further reputational damage.
The case underscores the broader scrutiny surrounding Musk’s leadership style and his handling of contractual obligations since taking over the social media platform.
