Following a high-profile intercultural kickboxing event at Bukedea Comprehensive Stadium, renowned Ugandan kickboxer Golola Moses has called on Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to develop a hotel, supermarket, and gym near the venue to catalyze sports tourism in the region.
Golola, who defeated Teso’s Power Mike Okiror in the cultural clash between Buganda and Teso communities, made the recommendation during a media briefing yesterday. The event, which attracted significant local and regional attention, concluded with Golola claiming the cultural fight title.
Speaking to journalists, Golola praised the Speaker for her investment in sports infrastructure, particularly the development of the Bukedea Comprehensive Stadium. “I want to thank Triple A for constructing such a beautiful sports complex in Bukedea,” he said.
“This facility is a game-changer, but to fully realize its potential, we need to create an ecosystem where athletes and visitors can thrive. A hotel, supermarket, and gym will make the stadium self-sustaining and attract more events, boosting tourism and local economies.”
Golola emphasized that integrating amenities close to the stadium is crucial for supporting emerging talents and making the venue a hub for sports tourism. “When athletes and tourists come here, they want comfort and convenience. With these services, Bukedea can become a destination for sports events, not just a place for training,” he explained.
He also urged other political leaders to emulate Speaker Among’s commitment to sports development. “The Speaker has shown remarkable dedication to nurturing Uganda’s sports potential. I call on other politicians to follow her lead and invest in grassroots sports programs and infrastructure,” Golola added.
The Bukedea Comprehensive Stadium has already hosted several regional events. Golola’s proposal aligns with broader efforts to leverage sports as a tool for economic growth and cultural exchange, particularly in under-represented regions like Teso.
The intercultural fight, contested between representatives of Buganda and Teso, was not only a display of athletic prowess but also a celebration of Uganda’s diverse heritage. Golola’s victory in the event has further elevated the stadium’s profile, with analysts suggesting that his recommendation could signal a shift in how sports infrastructure is developed in the country.
