A fatal road accident on the Soroti-Serere road this morning has left one person dead and over ten others seriously injured after a truck carrying traders to the weekly Kasilo market overturned near Omodoi.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. when a cargo truck, bearing registration number UAX 333T, lost control and flipped over while navigating a narrow diversion created by ongoing road construction.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and recovered the body of one victim at the site. The deceased has not yet been identified. The injured were quickly transported to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where medical staff confirmed that several are in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses at the scene blamed the accident on the poorly managed diversions along the construction zone, warning that such hazards have become increasingly dangerous for motorists.
“Our vehicle overturned around Omodoi where they’re constructing a bridge,” recounted one survivor. “The road was so narrow, and the surface was uneven. The driver tried to avoid heap of murrum but lost control.”
The Uganda Police is yet to issue an official statement regarding to the tragic incident.
