Prominent media personality and influencer Apecho Caroline has initiated legal proceedings against Gaitano, a known close associate and right-hand man of public figure Rody Gavana, over allegations of defamation.
The dispute stems from a message allegedly posted by Gaitano on the popular messaging platform WhatsApp, which accused Apecho Caroline of borrowing clothes and failing to return them.
Through her legal representatives, Carthage Advocates, Apecho has sent a formal demand letter to Gaitano, a copy of which has been obtained by this publication. The letter outlines the serious nature of the accusations and the significant impact they have allegedly had on the media personality.
The lawyers state that Gaitano’s remarks are “not only defamatory but aimed to tarnish our client’s brand to the general public.” They further emphasized Apecho’s stature, noting, “As you are aware our client is a global ambassador and a mother.”
The letter argues that the publication of this statement has caused considerable harm to Apecho Caroline's professional reputation, which she has built over her career. This damage has reportedly resulted in both financial losses and significant emotional distress.
To remedy the situation, Carthage Advocates have issued a stringent ultimatum. They are demanding a public apology retracting the alleged defamatory statements and substantial financial compensation totaling UGX 500,000,000 (Five Hundred Million Ugandan Shillings) in damages.
The letter serves as a pre-action notice, giving Gaitano a limited time to comply with the demands before a formal lawsuit is filed in court. If the matter proceeds to litigation, it could set a significant precedent for cases involving defamation through private digital platforms like WhatsApp.
At the time of this publication, there has been no public response from Gaitano.
