The Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Dominic Eibu as successor Bishop of Kotido Diocese.
In a statement titled Uganda: a new bishop in Kotido released through the French Vatican News agency the Holy Father Appointed Rev. Fr. Dominic Eibu to succeed Monsignor Giuseppe Filippi.
In a statement published on October 25, 2022 at 13:14, “The Holy Father accepted the renunciation of pastoral government of the Diocese of Kotido, Uganda, that was presented by Monsignor Giuseppe Filippi, M.C.C.J. As successor. The Pope appointed Comboni Father Dominic Eibu, current parish priest of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Cairo, Egypt.”
Who is Fr. Dominic Eibu
Bishop Dominic Eibu was born on April 30, 1970 in Lwala, in the diocese of Soroti (Uganda).
After studying philosophy at the Queen of Apostles Philosophy Center in Jinja, he made his first vows on May 16, 1998 in the Institute of Comboni Missionaries in Namugongo, Kampala.
He then continued his theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He made his perpetual vows on January 12, 2002 and was ordained a priest on August 15 of the same year.
Sent to Egypt, he obtained a degree in Arab and Islamic Studies in Cairo, then at the Pontifical Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies in Rome.
Among the tasks entrusted to him, he has worked as: Director of the Comboni Primary School in Khartoum (2005-2016); Deputy Provincial Superior of the Comboni Province of Khartoum (2008-2013); member and secretary of the college of consultors (2013-2016); secretary of the presbyteral council (2013-2016); education secretary (2013-2016); and since 2017, school director and deputy parish priest in Cairo.
He is currently pastor of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cairo, vice-provincial superior of Egypt-Sudan and member of the education committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
