Bukedea – The Bukedea community is in mourning after the lifeless body of 65-year-old woman identified as Amuge Lukia, a well-known businesswoman from Komuriakeri village in Kongunga Subcounty, was discovered on the morning of January 6, 2025.
Lukia, who ran a local restaurant and was a beloved member of her community, was found with multiple stab wounds, sparking an intense investigation into the brutal crime.
According to a statement issued by Regional Police Commander (RPC) of East Kyoga, Damalie Nachuha, the discovery was made by Lukia's neighbor, Amoding Ann Lilian. Concerned when Lukia failed to follow her usual morning routine of preparing food for her restaurant, Amoding went to check on her at approximately 6:30 AM. After receiving no response to her knocks, Amoding opened the door to find Lukia lying in a pool of blood on her papyrus mat. The elderly woman had suffered severe stab wounds to her neck and right cheek.
The shocking discovery prompted Amoding to alert other community members, and the local LC1 chairperson, Echedet Sam, quickly reported the incident to Kachumbala Police Station. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials found the crime scene to be disturbing, with a bloodied knife - believed to be the weapon used - recovered nearby. The knife, with a distinctive light blue handle, was found to have blood stains on it.
The police have since examined the scene, documented evidence, and transported the body to Bukedea HC IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
In a bid to track down the responsible individual(s), police deployed a canine unit to the scene, which followed the scent for approximately one kilometer before losing the trail.
"The search for the suspects is on", she added as the case, filed as VIDE CRB Bukedea 026/2025, remains under investigation as police continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic crime.
