Amuria District- Amuria District came alive on April 10th as National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders, supporters, and political aspirants gathered to commemorate NRM Day. The event brought together top district leaders, aspiring Members of Parliament, and LC5 flagbearers, all under the shared vision of championing development and unity through the party’s platform.
The celebrations were marked by a strong show of support for Hon. Etilu Margaret, one of the key aspirants for the Amuria District Woman MP seat. Her arrival, accompanied by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, drew considerable attention and temporarily paused the proceedings—signaling her growing grassroots influence ahead of the NRM primaries.
In her speech, Hon. Etilu pledged to focus on service delivery, especially in areas of education, healthcare, and women empowerment. “I am committed to bringing effective representation and real change to the people of Amuria District,” she said. She also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the NRM government for its longstanding support to the region, particularly recognizing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his leadership.
In a noteworthy gesture of commitment to the party's growth in the district, Hon. Etilu pledged to donate 100 bags of cement toward the construction of a permanent NRM office in Amuria. Currently, the party operates from a rented space due to the lack of official infrastructure.
The district has seen a surge of political activity, with 16 women so far expressing interest in the NRM ticket for the Woman MP position—indicative of a vibrant, albeit highly competitive, political landscape. However, this growing number has not gone without criticism. Regional NRM mobilizer Teddy Acam, who served as the chief guest at the event, voiced concern over what she described as "excessive ambition" and "confusion" among the aspiring candidates. She emphasized the need for unity and discipline within party ranks ahead of the primaries.
As the NRM gears up for a crucial electoral season in Amuria, the events of April 10th not only celebrated the party’s legacy but also spotlighted the new generation of leaders eager to shape the district’s Future.
