Amuria District – As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League elections draw near, the Amuria District Youth Caucus has thrown its weight behind Emmanuel Omaria, an aspirant for the Eastern Youth Member of Parliament (MP), following his strong call for unity, youth empowerment, and accountable leadership.
While addressing the youth leaders during a caucus meeting in Amuria, Omaria urged them to rise above divisive politics and champion a collective vision that places the youth at the center of development.
“Unity is a must among us,” Omaria stated passionately. “The questions facing the youth must be answered by the youth themselves. With your Vision 2030 agenda, that vision becomes ours. If we decide as one voice, no one can defeat us.”
The caucus meeting served as a platform for youth leaders to vet and endorse candidates ahead of the Friday elections, as well as to reflect on key issues affecting young people in the region.
Omaria reassured the youth of his commitment to work alongside elected leaders to ensure that promises made are fulfilled and that development projects benefit the grassroots. He called on the youth to rally behind candidates of their choice and maintain unity beyond the elections.
“Once I go through, I will work with the leaders you’ve chosen. Let’s stand firm, deeply rooted, and be an example to other districts,” he added.
One of the major issues raised was the mismanagement of a tractor that had been allocated to youth in Amuria. Omaria acknowledged their concerns and urged calm, pledging to use his voice to advocate for a replacement and ensure that future projects are handled transparently.
“I understand your frustration. You’ve invested a lot in trying to follow up on this tractor. I will ensure that your voice is heard and that we secure additional support,” he promised.
He also hinted at a new youth-driven initiative that he plans to roll out in Amuria, noting that discussions with sub-county NRM leaders are underway to bring the project to life.
In the meeting, Otiapa Emmanuel, the Amuria Mainstream Publicity Chairperson, who praised Omaria for taking time to engage directly with the youth.
“Our agenda for 2030 is clear. More political positions must be held by young people. When you reach parliament, change the system and always remember those who sent you there,” Otiapa remarked.
The youth also expressed dissatisfaction with leaders who abandon their constituencies after being elected. They called for a new breed of leaders who remain grounded, transparent, and focused on youth needs.
As support builds around Omaria’s candidacy, the Amuria Youth Caucus’s endorsement signals a growing demand for accountable and youth-centered leadership in Eastern Uganda.
