SOROTI - Police in Soroti district have apprehended and detained the LC3 chairman, Ebau Peter, for allegedly sexually abusing and impregnating his 16-year-old domestic worker, Abeja Mary Immaculate.
According to ASP Obukulem Edison, the acting PRO East Kyoga police, the incident was reported on May 10, 2024, by Odera John, a 48-year-old male adult and chairperson of Amoroto Village, Awaliwal sub county.
The alleged defilement occurred on April 28, 2024, at the suspect's premises, where the victim had been working as a maid. The suspect had provided the victim with a phone, which he later confiscated and used to threaten her into having sex with him again.
This prompted the young girl to escape from the home, drawing the attention of the suspect's wife, who brought her back. However, the suspect continued to harass and assault the maid, leading her to flee to her village in Toroma county, Katakwi district.
He also added that her family intervened through the clan leader, who questioned the girl about her pregnancy. She was then taken to the chairman of LC1 Magara village, Toroma sub county, who wrote a letter directing them to Awaliwal to meet the chairperson of the area where the maid had been staying.
The victim was subsequently taken to the suspect's home, where she revealed to the officers that she was pregnant, resulting from the first attempt at defilement in a guest house along the Soroti-Moroto highway.
Upon realizing he was being sought, the suspect fled to the East Kyoga region, where he was apprehended by the regional CID and handed over to the OC/CID of Katine police station under Soroti district. The case was recorded as CRV 143/2024 at Katine police station.
