Bukedea District - The Muslim community in Bukedea District marked this year’s Eid al-Adha with the slaughtering of over 700 cattle, an act that not only celebrated the Islamic holiday but also underscored the values of generosity, unity, and community service.

According to Araphat Oyo, the Coordinator for Afrika Kurban Organisayonu and Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bukedea, the slaughtering took place across three designated sites in the district. These included St. Mary's with 400 cattle, the District Headquarters with 150 cattle, and the Anita Foundation, also with 150 cattle, summing up to 700 cattle.

“We ensured that the meat was shared among both Muslims and non-Muslims,” said Oyo. “This celebration is not just about sacrifice but about spreading love and compassion to everyone in the community.”

In a show of personal generosity, Teddy Anyuk Osire, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Orungo County, donated 15 cattle, 300 kilograms of rice, and cartons of soda to the Muslim community in Orungo to support their Eid celebrations. Her gesture was widely applauded for bringing joy and relief to many families.

The administration of Starlight Secondary School also benefitted from her benevolence. The school's Public Relations Officer, Patrick Acol, extended gratitude to Osire for donating two cattle, saying the contribution would greatly benefit students during the festive season. He further called on the people of Orungo to rally behind her in the forthcoming elections.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abubakar Muhamad Adian, the County Sheikh of Orungo, hailed Osire for her continued support and inclusive approach to leadership. “Her kindness is a reflection of true community spirit,” he noted. “We appreciate her unity-driven leadership and the way she reaches out to people beyond religious lines.”

The celebrations this year in Bukedea not only honored the religious tradition of Eid al-Adha but also strengthened the bond among different communities—Muslims and non-Muslims alike—through acts of charity, compassion, and shared joy.
