Soroti Municipal S.S Triumphs as Champions in Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Tournament

SOROTI - Soroti Municipal Secondary School is basking in the glow of victory after being crowned the champions of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) competition for Soroti City in the boys' category. The win was celebrated today in a victory ceremony held at the school premises, where both students and teachers expressed immense joy and pride in their achievement.
 
 
The school's triumph marks a historic moment, as Soroti Municipal Secondary School will now go on to represent Soroti City in the upcoming regional games, which are set to be hosted in Kumi. The victory has set high hopes for the school's performance in the regional games, with the team eager to prove themselves on a bigger stage.
 
 
The path to victory was not easy, but the team's resilience and determination saw them emerge victorious in several tough matches. Their final game, which was crucial in securing their place as champions, ended in a thrilling penalty shootout against Soroti Secondary School. After a 0-0 draw in regular time, Soroti Municipal Secondary School triumphed 5-4 on penalties, sealing their place in the regional tournament.
 
 
Earlier in the tournament, the school had impressive victories against multiple teams. They defeated Crane High School 1-0, Agora SS 1-0, Soroti SS 0-0, Holy Angels 2-0, and Bethany Comprehensive SS 1-0. In the quarterfinals, they overcame Halcyon 1-0. Notably, they did not play in the semi-finals after Aloet Parents Secondary School and Light Secondary School were disqualified for fielding non-school players.
 
 
Mboizi Rogers, the headteacher of Soroti Municipal Secondary School, expressed his overwhelming joy at the success of the team. He credited the victory to the commitment and hard work of the players, as well as the moral support they received throughout the competition. "It has not been easy, but our players showed remarkable dedication and teamwork. This win is a result of their unwavering commitment," he said.
 
 
The headteacher also announced that scholarships would be awarded to the best-performing players, with recommendations to be made by the team captain. This gesture is aimed at encouraging continued excellence both on and off the field.
 
 
Isaac Oluka, the team captain, attributed the win to the spirit of unity and teamwork exhibited by the players. "The victory is a result of our collective effort. Everyone played their part, and we remained focused on our goal," Oluka stated. He also commended the school for providing the necessary facilitation and support to the team.
 
 
David Okurut, the school's sports teacher, urged the players to carry the same team spirit and determination as they prepare to represent Soroti City and District in the regional games. "The journey doesn’t end here. We must maintain the same discipline, focus, and teamwork as we head to Kumi," Okurut said.
 
 
With high hopes for success at the regional games, Soroti Municipal Secondary School is determined to continue its winning streak, aiming for even greater achievements on the national stage. The school’s victory is a testament to the power of teamwork, dedication, and the importance of strong support systems in sports development.
