SOROTI DISTRICT - In the quiet sub-county of Asuret in Soroti District, a powerful story of resilience and redemption is unfolding—one that’s turning heads, warming hearts, and changing lives. At Asuret Seed Secondary School, three young mothers—still teenagers—are courageously balancing motherhood with the pursuit of their dreams.

The revelation came during a recent career guidance session organized by Bob Owinny, the District Councilor for Tubur, where Headteacher Ikengo Tamali spoke with compassion and pride.

“These are girls who became pregnant in previous years,” Tamali shared. “We welcomed them back to school because we believe their pregnancies were mistakes—not the end of their future.”

Tamali’s words echoed through the school compound like a heartbeat of hope. The young mothers, now breastfeeding their children at home and returning to class with notebooks in hand, are symbols of quiet strength and a community’s belief in second chances.

Among the guests at the session was Regina Ipalu, an aspirant for the Asuret District Woman Councilor seat, who delivered a powerful message to parents and community leaders:

“When a girl becomes pregnant, support her. Don’t chase her away. A mistake should not define her. With love and guidance, she can still become someone great—even a president,” she said, her voice firm yet full of empathy.

Inside the classroom, the energy is real. Chalk scratches across blackboards, pages turn, and pens scribble down dreams. But behind every textbook is a story of perseverance—a young girl who wakes up early to feed her baby before heading to school, determined to secure a better future for both of them.

John Malinga, the school’s career guidance teacher, knows the challenges are real but insists the message must be louder than the stigma.

“We keep reminding our students—especially the girls—that early sex can have serious consequences. But for those who fall, it’s not the end. They can rise. And they are rising,” Malinga said.

The scene at Asuret Seed is more than a school setting. It’s a statement. It’s proof that with the right support system, even girls carrying diapers in one hand can hold diplomas in the other.

As the sun sets over Asuret, its rays fall on a school that dares to believe in possibilities. In its classrooms sit young mothers—once judged, now cheered on. Their journey is not easy, but it is powerful. Because at Asuret Seed Secondary School, dreams are being reborn—one courageous step at a time.
