Soroti City — In a powerful Palm Sunday homily delivered at Jeressar High School, the Right Reverend Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach, Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, urged students to reject the pursuit of quick riches and instead embrace a life anchored in hard work, patience, and integrity.
His message, centered on the biblical account of Judas Iscariot, emphasized the dangers of dishonest shortcuts to success. “Judas wanted things the quick way, and that led to his downfall,” Bishop Eciru cautioned, as he encouraged students to emulate Jesus Christ’s perseverance and faith in the face of suffering.
The bishop's visit is part of Jeressar High School’s commitment to nurturing not just academic excellence but strong moral character among its students. The school, which has built a reputation for holistic education grounded in Christian values, regularly invites spiritual and community leaders to engage with learners on ethical and life-guiding principles.
“This message aligns perfectly with what we teach here,” said one of the school administrators. “At Jeressar High School, we strive to raise a generation that is not only knowledgeable but also morally upright and socially responsible.”
With recent excellent performance in UCE and UACE examinations, the school continues to demonstrate that academic success and spiritual grounding can go hand-in-hand. The visit by Bishop Eciru served as a timely reminder that the future belongs to those who combine faith, discipline, and integrity.
As students applauded the bishop’s closing words—“Remain faithful, work honestly, and always put God first”—it was clear that Jeressar High School remains a beacon of hope and guidance for the young generation in Teso and beyond.
