Katakwi District - Vice President Jessica Alupo has once again demonstrated her strong political foothold in Katakwi District after winning the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for the position of Woman Member of Parliament with an overwhelming majority.
According to results officially announced by the NRM Electoral Commission Returning Officer Otilem James, Alupo secured 84,944 votes, representing 88.8% of the total votes cast. Her closest challenger, Anuken Angella, managed 5,704 votes (6%), followed by Akurut Violet Adome with 4,828 votes (5%), and Anyakoit Cicilia, who received only 139 votes (0.1%).
In total, 95,615 votes were cast in the primaries, with Alupo commanding a landslide win that solidifies her position as the NRM flagbearer for the Katakwi District Woman MP seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The declaration was made official on July 17, 2025, and stamped by the NRM EC District Registrar in Katakwi.
In her remarks after the win, Alupo thanked the people of Katakwi for their continued trust and support. "This overwhelming endorsement shows the strength of our unity and shared vision for progress. I am honored and ready to serve again," she said.
As Vice President and a seasoned legislator, Alupo's victory not only highlights her continued relevance in Ugandan politics but also reinforces her influence within the NRM party, especially in the Teso sub-region.
With the primaries concluded, attention now turns to the 2026 general elections, where Alupo will represent the NRM against candidates from other political parties.
