KAMPALA, Uganda – Veteran Ugandan artist Dan Kazibwe, popularly known as Ragga Dee, has issued a stern warning to fellow musician Mikie Wine, threatening a massive lawsuit over alleged copyright infringement. The dispute centers on Mikie Wine's purported remix of Ragga Dee's 2004 hit song, "Oyagala Cash," for which Ragga Dee is demanding UGX 300 million in compensation.

According to an official letter from MDG Law Advocates, representing Ragga Dee, legal action is imminent if Mikie Wine fails to comply with their demands within seven days. The letter accuses Mikie Wine of reproducing and performing Ragga Dee’s copyrighted track, originally titled "Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash," without obtaining the necessary permission.

Key points outlined in the legal communication include assertions that Ragga Dee secured copyright for the song in 2004 and has been its sole performer for the past two decades. Mikie Wine is specifically accused of merely adding the word "Zuena" to the popular track while retaining its original lyrics and core message.

The letter further highlights that Mikie Wine’s version is currently gaining significant traction on social media platforms and YouTube, exacerbating the alleged infringement.

Ragga Dee's legal team firmly states that Mikie Wine’s actions constitute a direct violation of Ragga Dee’s proprietary rights under Uganda's Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act (Cap 222). Consequently, they are demanding a hefty sum of UGX 300,000,000 (Three Hundred Million Uganda Shillings) as compensation, setting a strict seven-day deadline for payment from the date of the letter.

Failure to meet this demand, the law firm warns, will lead to the immediate filing of a formal lawsuit against Mikie Wine.

As of yet, Mikie Wine has not issued any public response to the legal notice. The burgeoning dispute has captured the attention of the Ugandan music fraternity and fans alike, who are closely monitoring developments in what promises to be a high-profile copyright battle.
