As Uganda's presidential campaign intensifies, popular singer Pius Mayanja, famously known as Pallaso, has officially declared his allegiance to the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), advocating for significant change within the country.

Pallaso made the public announcement on his social media accounts this evening, unequivocally stating his support for the NUP and emphasizing an urgent need for a new direction.

"Immediate action is needed, Our Future depends on change. I support NUP," read a portion of his statement. He further underscored his belief in a renewed Uganda, adding, "Uganda you deserve better, time for change is now."

This revelation marks a significant moment, as it is the first time the acclaimed artist has openly endorsed the National Unity Platform, despite his well-documented close relationship with the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Pallaso's solidarity with Bobi Wine's political endeavors is not entirely unprecedented. In August 2018, he released a powerful song, reportedly titled "Mumuleke," demanding Bobi Wine's release from detention following an incident in Arua. This earlier musical statement had already highlighted his support during a critical period for the then-parliamentarian.

The singer's political stance also creates a notable contrast within his prominent musical family. His elder brothers, Jose Chameleone (Joseph Mayanja) and Weasel (Douglas Mayanja), are known for their strong allegiance to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, headed by President Yoweri Museveni. This divergence highlights the varied political landscape even within Uganda's prominent entertainment industry.
