The political temperature in Kapelebyong District has risen sharply following the nomination of independent candidate Florence Adupo, who is set to challenge incumbent Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Jacinta Atuto in the forthcoming general elections. Adupo’s entry into the race has sent waves of political shivering across the district, as residents anticipate one of the most closely contested parliamentary battles in the region.
Speaking after her nomination, Adupo expressed deep concern over what she described as poor service delivery under the current leadership. She cited deteriorating education standards, poor health facilities, and a collapsing road network that has crippled local trade and market access. “Kapelebyong deserves better. Our people have endured neglect and underdevelopment for too long. I am offering a leadership of action, not propaganda,” Adupo stated confidently.
She emphasized her commitment to inclusive development, pledging to prioritize women and youth empowerment, as well as to promote education and infrastructure improvement. Adupo vowed to unseat Atuto “in broad daylight,” expressing faith that voters are ready for change.
However, Hon. Jacinta Atuto, who is seeking a second term, dismissed Adupo’s remarks as baseless. She reaffirmed her strong bond with the people of Kapelebyong, highlighting her achievements during her tenure. “The people of Kapelebyong know me and my work. I don’t deal in propaganda. I have been with them from the beginning, and my record speaks for itself,” Atuto asserted.
As the campaign season unfolds, political analysts predict a fierce and issue-based contest between the two women. With both camps drawing massive support, Kapelebyong now stands at the crossroads of continuity and change, a district in full political shivering mode as the 2026 general elections approach.
