Police in Amuria District have arrested a Local Council One (LC1) chairperson and his nephew in connection with the alleged murder of the chairman’s 27-year-old son following a domestic dispute that turned fatal.

The suspects have been identified as Okiring Naboth, 50, the LC1 chairperson of Ocal Village in Ocal Parish, Abarilela Sub-county, and his nephew, Alejat Moses. They are accused of killing Mr. Okiring Francis, 27, during an incident that reportedly occurred on February 22, 2026, at around 3:00 p.m. in Ocal Village.

According to preliminary police findings, a domestic disagreement escalated into a violent altercation at the family home. During the confrontation, the deceased was allegedly attacked by his father and cousin. The exact cause of the disagreement has not yet been disclosed as investigations remain ongoing.

The victim was rushed to Amuria General Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to police.

The East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, ACP Haji Ibrahim Saiga, confirmed the arrests and said the two suspects are currently being held at Amuria Central Police Station pending further investigations. He noted that the case file has been submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance.

ACP Saiga condemned the incident and urged members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving family conflicts rather than resorting to violence. He emphasized the importance of involving local leaders, family elders, and relevant authorities in mediation processes to prevent similar tragedies.

“This is a regrettable incident that could have been avoided. We encourage communities to embrace dialogue and lawful conflict resolution mechanisms,” ACP Saiga said.

The arrests have sparked shock and grief within Ocal Village and the wider community, with residents describing the incident as a heartbreaking event that has left many in disbelief. Community members have called for calm as police continue with investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.

Authorities have assured the public that thorough inquiries are underway and that justice will take its course in accordance with the law.
