Police bust criminal gang connected to the theft of rural electrification materials

The east Kyoga police are investigating the criminal theft of rural electrification wires by some individuals who were arrested from Asuret Sub County in Soroti district who were arraigned in the courts of law.


While talking to the media, ASP Ageca Oscar Gregory East Kyoga police spokesperson said that the criminal act was being carried out in different districts of Teso where after follow up on the case, police impounded a motor vehicle from Mbale city that was used in the racket of stealing the wires and will be driven to Soroti CPS.


‘’Another group was arrested from Mukura sub-county in Ngora district, after interrogation, the suspects mentioned out other two people who were arrested from Mbale city and four suspects arrested from Mukura and taken to Ngora CPS where they will also be arraigned in the courts of law. ASPAgeca said

 

Soroti resident district commissioner, Okumu Patrick added that the group has been stealing the rural electrification materials that were meant to benefit the locals in Teso.


 ‘’We managed to arrest about five of the individuals with the help of the intelligence network in Soroti district, the five were got with different materials meant for the electrification, a government project meant to help the rural people, the materials were left in Ngora district’’ Okumu Patrick said.


He further explained that the criminals act like a team conducting the electrification exercise and load the materials in the trucks and carry out their illegal acts in a big network across different districts of Teso and have been trailed for some time now.
