SOROTI - Weeks after meeting up with the NRM vice chairman for eastern Uganda Mike Mukula, the red-eyed NUP's party member Grace Asio Ongorok who once contested in the Soroti city woman parliamentary seat but lost to FDC's Joan Alobo has called upon the NRM party for support so that she helps in demobilizing the NUP party in the regions of Teso, Lango, and Acholi.
Asio made these remarks yesterday Monday 26th, July 2022 when she other NRM leaders and members at St. Kizito technical institute in Madera Ward to meet up with the NRM chairman president Yoweri Museveni.
'' Our party made a decision to support a candidate of another party without consulting us, no person from teso is holding a bigger office in the NUP party compared to the way NRM has served different positions from the vice president to other ministries'', she said as NRM supporters cheered.
She further called upon support from president Museveni to provide resources to help in the demobilization of the NUP party in the three regions that she suggested.
Asio who came last in the 2021 polls after getting 596 votes was later offered an NRM t-shirt that had president Musevenis' that she later wore as the crowd clapped.
It should also be noted that the NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi has since not made any comment concerning the two NUP members from Soroti city who went against the party decision to support FDC's Attan Moses Okia in the by-elections.
The two members include Asio Grace Ongorok and Tom Ewoku a former contestant in the mayoral race in Soroti city east that he lost to FDC's Paul Omer.
It should also be noted that the NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi has since not any remarks about the two NUP members who went against the party's idea of supporting the FDC's Attan Moses OKia to supporting NRM's Herbert Ariko.
