SOROTI CITY EAST: Attan files court petition challenging Arikos' victory

SOROTI- Former parliamentary contestant for Soroti city east Attan Moses Okia of the FDC party has filed a petition against the recently concluded Soroti city by-election results where NRM's Herbert Edmund Ariko was announced as the duly elected mp for Soroti city east division on July 28, 2022, by the Soroti city returning officer Christine Eyuu.

 

Attan challenged the results citing that there were malpractices during the elections. 

 

In a letter dated, Friday 26th,2022, the high court in Soroti through the court registrar wrote to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents who include the Soroti city east MP Ariko Herbert Edmund Okworo, electoral commission, and the returning officer of Soroti city requesting them to respond to the petitioner within a period of ten days or the court shall proceed to hnd logged in the high court of Uganda holden at Soroti wherein the petitioner challenges the return of the 1st respondent by 2nd and 3rd respondents as validly elected Direct MP for Soroti City East Division constituency. You are hereby required to file your answer to the said petition within 10 days from the date of service,” the petition reads

 

It should also be noted that during the Soroti city east by-elections, Ariko garnered 9,407 votes while Moses Okia Attan of the Forum for Democratic Change FDC Party got 8,771 votes and Pascal Amuriat (UPC ) came third with 115 votes out of the 18,293 valid votes cast on Thursday.
