Tourism Minister Butime assures Katakwi Community quick compensation

The minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Col. Tom Butime has assured the Katakwi community of quick compensation for the individuals who lost their goats, pigs, and sheep to wolves.

 

Colonel made the pronouncement during a community meeting with the people of Africa, Moru A, Moru B, Moru Apesur and Kide village in Getom Sub County Katakwi district.

 

He said as the Ministry of Tourism, they’re ready to compensate people as soon as possible in order for them to benefit from the parish development model.

 

 Colonel Butime in a speech apologized to the community on behalf of the wildlife and he asked them to keep their animals in safe places as they look for wolves.

 

“We’re ready as a ministry with the help of RDC Katakwi district to deploy sister security officers in order to beef up the dangerous animal,” Minister Butime said.

 

In the same speech, he told the people of Getom sub-county that the ministry is coming back to scrutinize the place following their plea for a tourism site.

 

RDC Katakwi Rt. Maj Godfrey Katamba in his speech assured the people of Katakwi enough security as soon as today in order to secure the future of people and their properties in Katakwi district.

 

“I have already mobilized the sister security and instructed the deployment of Uganda People’s defense forces, Police, and ASTUS immediately,” Katamba said

 

Katamba added that as security they will not sleep until these wolves are trapped or killed following the threat it has mounted to the people of Katakwi.

 

Geoffrey Omolo, LCV Katakwi district asked the people of Katakwi district to be security conscious and assured them of support towards the filling of forms needed by the ministry.

 

“I am not stalling since this animal started damaging people’s goats, pigs, and sheep in various places in Katakwi district,” Omolo said.

 

Meanwhile, Jimmy Okello the LCV councilor representing Getom in Katakwi district thanked the minister for the quick response towards the matter in his jurisdiction

 

He therefore asked the community to follow the ministers’ idea in order to achieve the given purpose of PDM

 

However, the chairman of LC3 Getom sub-county in his speech to the media uploaded the minister and asked the community of Getom to be vigilant.

 

John Makombo director in charge of animal keeping in Tourism Ministry Uganda also apologized to the people of Katakwi for the damages and assured farmers who lost their animals to be compensated immediately.

 

He added that they are going to compensate people through their mobile money after verification.
