Isaac Orego, a parliamentary aspirant for Soroti City East Division, has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots driven development during a vibrant campaign visit to Otatai Ward, where he addressed residents in the cells of Olwa and Owolo. As the joint primaries draw closer, Orego used the platform to outline his people centered vision and development strategy rooted in practical community solutions.

While addressing voters, Orego made it clear that he is a son of Aloet, not Gweri, urging residents to remain focused and not be misled by political opponents seeking to distort facts for electoral gain. He advised constituents to demand issue-based campaigns and reject divisive rhetoric. “Let no one come and confuse you in the way of looking for votes,” he said. “When you come across them, tell them to seek support in a proper way.”

Orego positioned himself as a unifying leader committed to inclusive governance. He emphasized that leadership is about serving all communities equally, regardless of tribe or background. “In governance, you lead all people Iteso, Kumam, and others,” he noted, promising to build bridges across ethnic lines for the greater good of Soroti City East.

He also highlighted ongoing community initiatives he is spearheading, including a poultry farming project that is benefiting local women, youth, and men. According to Orego, empowering families at the grassroots level is essential for achieving city wide development. “When families are empowered, development will automatically spread throughout Soroti City East,” he said.

Orego further announced his support for strengthening local savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs) to improve financial access for families. He pledged that these SACCOs will offer loans at a low interest rate of just 1 percent to assist parents in keeping their children in school, especially when faced with urgent tuition needs.

He also took time to assess the infrastructure gaps in Otatai Ward, notably the lack of electricity in several areas. Orego pledged to lobby for the installation of transformers to ensure the extension of power to underserved communities. In addressing the issue of water access, he proposed setting up a borehole management committee equipped with repair tools and spare parts to maintain critical water sources when breakdowns occur.

Turning to social protection, Orego criticized the disparity in the distribution of the Senior Citizens Grant, commonly known as SAGE. He noted that while elders in some parts of the country receive support from the age of 50, many in Soroti begin receiving it only at 80. “This is due to lack of representation,” he stated. “I will work with the government to ensure our people begin receiving SAGE at 50.”

During the campaign, several young people, including Iweda Esther, expressed their appreciation for Orego’s practical programs aimed at uplifting the youth. Speaking to Teso Vibez , Esther called on the aspirant to support their skilling efforts by providing tailoring machines and other tools necessary to fight unemployment.

Orego’s message of empowerment, unity, and grassroots action struck a strong chord with the voters in Otatai. As the party primaries approach, his campaign continues to gain traction as one focused not just on promises, but on practical, community-led solutions that speak directly to the daily needs of the people.
