KUMI - The police have identified the four individuals who tragically lost their lives in the fatal accident on the Kumi-Soroti road yesterday evening.

The collision involved a blue Toyota Hiace minibus (Reg No. UAW 996G) and a Bajaj motorcycle (Reg No. UET 163A) in Akaruke, resulting in a devastating loss of life and multiple injuries.

The victims who passed away have been named as Anyait Mwajuma, a nurse at Soroti Hospital, and Amuron Penina, a resident of Soroti City. The identities of two other female victims are yet to be confirmed.

In addition to the fatalities, six others, including the boda boda rider responsible for the accident, are currently hospitalized at Atutur Hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries.

The accident occurred when the motorcycle, traveling in the same direction as the minibus from Soroti towards Kumi, made a sudden U-turn, leading to the collision.

The traffic police at Kumi CPS were notified by Aeko Hussin Mubarak, a 37-year-old businessman from Bazaar Ward, Kumi Municipality.

The police responded swiftly, registering the case under TAR 58/2024. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Atutur Hospital for postmortem examination, and both vehicles have been impounded pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (I.O.V).

ASP Obukulem Edison, the Public Relations Officer for East Kyoga, reiterated the importance of road safety, urging all road users to strictly follow traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
