Soroti, Uganda – Halcyon High School Soroti Main Campus has reaffirmed its status as an academic powerhouse following the release of the 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
The school recorded a remarkable 95% university qualification rate, with 70% of its 180 candidates scoring three principal passes and an additional 25% obtaining two principal passes. This achievement cements Halcyon’s legacy of academic excellence and holistic education.
A Testament to Excellence
Speaking to the media, Mr. Paul Mark Onyait, the school’s head teacher, expressed immense pride in the students' achievements, crediting hard work, discipline, and a strong academic support system for the stellar performance.
“We are proud to announce that 70% of our candidates obtained three principal passes, while 25% secured two principal passes, meaning 95% of our students qualify for university and tertiary education. This reflects our unwavering commitment to academic excellence,” said Mr. Onyait.
He also highlighted significant improvements in girls’ performance across both Arts and Science subjects, signaling progress in gender inclusivity in education.
Top Achievers Shine Bright
Among the school’s top scorers is Orach Emmanuel, who led the pack with an impressive 19 points in HED/ICT. He was closely followed by:

Anyimo Mercy (HLD/ICT) – 18 points
Amongin Caroline (HLD/ICT) – 18 points
Ewotu Edward (HEL/ICT) – 17 points

Students Reflect on Their Journey
Akol Tonny Brian, one of the top-performing Science students, described Halcyon as an institution built on academic rigor and discipline.
“Halcyon is a passing center. There’s a lot of reading, assessments, and serious academic guidance. I scored 18 points, and I’m proud of my performance,” he shared.
Similarly, Akwango Lilian, another successful candidate, praised the school’s structured learning environment and dedicated teachers.
“The teachers gave us continuous assessments, papers, and corrections. I expected around 12 points, but my results exceeded my expectations. To all the girls out there, Halcyon is the place to be,” she encouraged.
Ewotu Edward, who scored 17 points, acknowledged that while some subjects, particularly Literature, were challenging, the school had thoroughly prepared them for success.
“We did not expect such great results in Literature, but the outcome was extremely good,” he said.
National Perspective on UACE 2024 Results
According to UNEB’s official data, a total of 109,488 candidates sat for the 2024 UACE exams. The overall performance showed improvement:
41,975 students (38.3%) obtained three principal passes
32,113 students (29.3%) obtained two principal passes
20,602 students (18.8%) obtained one principal pass
9,826 students (9.0%) obtained a subsidiary pass
4,972 students (4.5%) failed to obtain any pass
A total of 86.5% of candidates qualified for university and tertiary education, marking an improvement from 85.2% in 2023.
The gender analysis revealed that girls continued to excel in Arts combinations, while boys maintained dominance in Science subjects. However, the gap narrowed significantly this year, reflecting a growing balance in academic opportunities.
