SOROTI – Pamba Emorikikinos SACCO (PESA) has made a significant contribution to the growth of local churches in Soroti City through a generous donation of building materials and financial support. This initiative, part of PESA’s broader community development strategy, underscores the SACCO’s commitment to fostering community development and supporting religious institutions.
David Ebulu, Chairman of PESA, revealed that the SACCO saved 7,280,000 UGX last year, which has been earmarked for church construction projects. "At PESA, we believe in giving back to the community, and supporting the construction of church buildings is one of the best ways we can make a meaningful impact," said Ebulu.
The churches benefiting from this donation include Soroti Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, which received 36 bags of cement; Masjid Mosque in Moruapesur Ward, which was provided with 20 iron sheets; Light Resurrection Ministries International in Campswahili Ward, which received 36 bags of cement; and Enlightened Christian Gathering Church, also granted 36 bags of cement.
As part of its ongoing support, PESA is also set to donate 2 million UGX to Regina Acaeli Church and 1.4 million UGX to St. Peter’s Cathedral on Sunday, March 16, 2025. These financial contributions complement the building materials and further demonstrate PESA’s commitment to uplifting the community.
Ebulu extended an invitation to all members of the community to join PESA, highlighting the SACCO’s growth and its mission of fostering a culture of saving and giving. "Our vision is not just about financial savings, but also about empowering our members and the wider community to achieve greater collective development," he emphasized.
Church leaders expressed deep gratitude for the donations, with Elder Nicholas Elasu of the Seventh-day Adventist Church commending PESA for prioritizing their church. Thomas Elungat of Enlightened Christian Gathering Church viewed the donation as the beginning of a long-term partnership, while Mohammed Kasujja, the founder of Masjid Taqua Mosque, thanked PESA for the support and urged fellow Muslims and non-Muslims to unite in creating a foundation for collective development through PESA.
Juventine Otim, chairman of the construction committee at Light Resurrection Ministries, received the materials with thanks, promising that the resources would be used effectively to further the church’s building efforts.
With 76 fully registered members, PESA continues to grow and expand its impact. Ebulu revealed the SACCO’s long-term vision to transition into a fully-fledged bank, encouraging the public to embrace the values of financial discipline and community development.
The donation ceremony, which took place at the respective churches, was attended by PESA members, church leaders, and local community members. It was a day of celebration and reflection, marking a meaningful step towards the betterment of Soroti City’s religious infrastructure and community spirit.
PESA’s ongoing support to local churches is a testament to its dedication to both social and economic development, helping to build not just stronger buildings, but also a stronger community.
