In a move that signals a new chapter for Orungo Constituency, political aspirant Opio Abraham has officially launched his campaign to represent the area member of Parliament under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket. His campaign launch comes shortly after the retirement of long-serving MP General Jeje Odongo, opening the door for a new generation of leadership.
Addressing a large and energized crowd during a rally in Orungo, Opio laid out an ambitious and comprehensive vision for the constituency. His campaign agenda is anchored on infrastructure development, improved education, healthcare services, and youth empowerment , key pillars he says will drive Orungo toward sustainable development.
“We can no longer accept substandard roads that isolate communities and stifle economic growth,” Opio declared. “I will engage with government stakeholders to ensure key roads are tarmacked. Our farmers need access to markets, and our children must get to school safely and on time.”
Opio stressed that infrastructural development is the cornerstone of economic transformation. He noted that Orungo's poor road network has consistently hindered growth, especially in agriculture and access to essential services.
“Without proper roads, we cannot talk about progress,” he said. “We must create the conditions for our people to thrive.”
Education reform featured prominently in Opio’s speech. He pledged to establish scholarship programs and education support initiatives targeting students from low-income families.
“Every child in Orungo deserves the opportunity to succeed,” he said. “We must invest in their education to ensure a better tomorrow.”
In the health sector, Opio promised to revamp local health facilities by addressing drug shortages and improving staffing levels.
“No mother should have to walk miles in search of medical help,” he emphasized. “Access to quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege.”
With a significant portion of Orungo’s population comprising young people, Opio vowed to be a strong advocate for youth development. He outlined plans to establish vocational training centers and entrepreneurship hubs aimed at providing skills and jobs for the unemployed.
“Our youth are the heartbeat of this constituency,” he said. “We must invest in their potential and empower them to become job creators and change-makers.”
Running on a platform of transparency, accountability, and people-centered leadership, Opio positioned himself as a servant leader committed to inclusive development and participatory governance. He urged constituents to support his bid in both the NRM primaries and the general elections.
“I am here to serve, to listen, and to act,” he said. “The time for change is now. Together, we can build a better Orungo for everyone.”
Opio previously contested the Orungo parliamentary seat in 2021 against General Jeje Odongo. With the general’s retirement, Opio’s renewed bid is viewed by many as a promising opportunity for transformation.
As the NRM primaries draw closer, Opio’s campaign continues to gain momentum, and many in Orungo see him as a symbol of the fresh leadership they have been waiting for.
“The time for change is now,” Opio concluded. “Together, we can build a better Orungo for all.”
