Residents of Akisim and Moruapesur wards in Soroti City East Division were filled with renewed hope on the second day of the campaign trail for Isaac Orego conducted yesterday, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary aspirant. Orego laid out an ambitious development agenda that captured the attention and enthusiasm of locals during rallies held in the two wards.

Speaking to energized crowds, Orego acknowledged that Soroti City East has long lagged behind in key infrastructure and social services. He pledged to reverse this trend by championing tangible development projects if elected to represent the division in Parliament.

“In Akism and Moruapesur, development has been too slow,” Orego stated. “Our roads are poor, our health services are lacking, and our youth need skills and jobs. These are the challenges I am ready to take on, hand in hand with the government.”

One of the central points of his address was road infrastructure. Orego pointed out that many parts of the division, especially Akism, suffer from impassable roads that limit economic opportunities and access to services. He committed to working closely with relevant authorities to ensure road construction and rehabilitation become a priority.

Health services were another major concern. Orego promised to lobby for the establishment of a fully functional health center in Akism Ward to address the growing need for accessible and quality medical care. “No one should have to travel long distances for basic health care. A health center in Akism is a right, not a privilege,” he emphasized.

Water access also featured in his development plan. Orego pledged to engage both local and central government institutions to expand access to clean water for residents of both wards.

Recognizing the critical issue of youth unemployment, Orego proposed the expansion of the existing industrial training hub in Arapai. He noted that the current facility is too small to meet the needs of the growing youth population. “Our children deserve the opportunity to gain skills that can turn into jobs or businesses. I will advocate for an expanded, better-equipped training hub,” he said.

Orego’s message was well-received by residents, many of whom described his speech as inspiring and timely. With growing support in Akism and Moruapesur, his campaign is gaining momentum as the race for the NRM party flag intensifies in Soroti City East Division.
