Former Woman Member of Parliament for Kumi District, Hon. Monicah Amoding, has made a political comeback after securing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag in the just-concluded party primaries.

The NRM electoral commission returning officer for Kumi District, Mr. Okui Oscar, officially declared Amoding the winner after she garnered a total of 23,095 votes. Her closest rival, Apolot Christine, followed closely with 21,817 votes. Other contenders in the race included Akomolot Getrude Oucho with 9,455 votes, Aanyu Brenda (1,920), Agwang Phoebe (1,676), and Ojakol Harriet (1,237).

With a decisive margin, Amoding’s victory was confirmed at the district tally center amidst jubilations from her supporters. She later signed the official declaration forms, expressing gratitude and excitement over the outcome.

“I am truly humbled by the confidence the people of Kumi have shown in me once again. This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every woman, youth, and elder who believes in strong and inclusive leadership,” Amoding stated.

Mr. Okui Oscar congratulated all candidates for participating in the democratic process and commended the electorate for turning out in large numbers to vote peacefully.

This win marks a significant political return for Amoding, who previously served in the 10th Parliament and is known for championing women’s rights and community development initiatives.

As the newly elected NRM flag bearer, Amoding is now set to contest in the 2026 general elections, where she aims to reclaim her seat as Woman Member of Parliament for Kumi District.

The NRM primary election in Kumi District was closely contested, reflecting the growing political engagement and competition within the ruling party structures at the grassroots level.
