KAPELEBYONG – Leaders of Kapelebyong District on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, officially commissioned Alito Seed Secondary School, a state-of-the-art educational facility constructed at a cost of UGX 2.5 billion under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UGIFT) Programme.

The newly inaugurated school is expected to significantly improve access to affordable, quality secondary education for children in Alito Sub-county and surrounding communities.

Sitting on a 12-acre piece of land donated in 2023 by residents of Aberan Village, the modern institution boasts a comprehensive array of infrastructure. These include an administration block, four classroom blocks (each containing two classrooms), a science laboratory, a library, a multipurpose hall, and an ICT block equipped with sanitary facilities.

Additionally, the school features three twin-unit staff houses, separate latrines for teachers, boys, and girls, three two-stance staff latrines, three kitchens, a football field, and a perimeter fence to ensure security.

While commissioning the facility, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Esele Simon Julius, lauded the government for its continued investment in education infrastructure. He emphasized that the development aligns with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s policy to ensure that every sub-county across the country has a public secondary school.

"The President loves the people of Kapelebyong. Let us reciprocate that love," Mr. Esele urged the residents.

District Education Officer Mr. Okengo Denis described the commissioning as a historic milestone that will transform the educational landscape of the area. He revealed that the school has already registered an initial enrollment of 102 students and urged parents within the sub-county to take advantage of the facility rather than sending their children to distant schools.

"The district worked hard to secure an EMIS number for the school. Next year, the government will provide staffing for the school," Mr. Okengo announced.

The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Shaineh Nelson, paid special tribute to the community members who freely gave up their land for the project. He noted that the district is exploring appropriate procedures to reward the donor families, potentially through government recognition, medals, or prioritization in other government programs.

Mr. Shaineh also called on the local community to take the lead in protecting the multimillion-shilling investment, assuring residents that discussions are underway to provide adequate security and follow up on government teacher deployment.

District Chairperson Ms. Ajego Jackline commended the contractor for delivering high-quality work and reiterated the need for the community to honor the landowners.

"May your services continue to reflect excellence. May God continue to bless you," Ms. Ajego said, addressing the contractor and local stakeholders.

Meanwhile, District Engineer Mr. Charles Oule thanked the District Council for prioritizing the project and praised the community for collaborating smoothly with the contractor. He pledged that the district would work to improve key road networks connecting neighboring communities to the new school.
