Soroti City — Jeressar High School hosted a formal student leadership handover ceremony yesterday, Sunday, 27th July 2025. The event marked the transition of responsibilities between outgoing and incoming prefects, emphasizing the core values of unity, dedicated service, and the importance of a positive mindset. Attended by school officials and distinguished guests, the ceremony reinforced the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible and visionary student leaders.
Obuya Michael, the Soroti City Education Commissioner and chief guest at the event, urged the student leaders to foster unity and cooperation between the outgoing and incoming prefects. Drawing inspiration from biblical references such as Ecclesiastes 9:10, Mark 3:25, and Proverbs 16:3, he encouraged the outgoing prefects to continue demonstrating leadership with the same commitment, while motivating the new leaders to uphold high standards of service.
In his remarks, School Chaplain Okello Peter emphasized the importance of prayerfulness and dedication among student leaders. He advised them to lead by example, maintain focus on their studies, and encourage their peers to serve the school community diligently.
Odongo Sam, the School Patron Electoral Commissioner, called on the prefects to work collaboratively and exemplify integrity in their leadership roles. He also encouraged the outgoing leaders to extend their leadership impact beyond the school environment, becoming positive role models within their communities.
Guest speaker Timothy Nguru, Guild President of Soroti Flying School Academy, highlighted the critical role of mindset in leadership success. He noted, “The body goes as far as its limits, but the mind can go beyond,” urging student leaders to cultivate a strong and positive mindset as they undertake their responsibilities.
