The NPP had earlier this week summoned their president, accusing her of allegedly performing at a rally organised by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), a move the party deemed contrary to its internal rules.
However, Lunar Advocates swiftly countered the accusation, clarifying that their client, Stecia Mayanja, is contracted as an artist and brand name to ALMagic Uganda Limited. They stated that performing where the company has been requested is an integral part of her contractual obligations as a professional artist.
"Our client is registered to your party as an individual, not as a performing artist; you have to draw a clear line to that effect," a part of the letter from Lunar Advocates read, emphasizing the distinction between Mayanja's political role and her professional artistic career.
The legal team further asserted that the NPP has no authority to curtail Mayanja's rights as a performing artist or to prevent her from fulfilling her contractual commitments.
Consequently, ALMagic Uganda Limited has unequivocally demanded that the NPP immediately withdraw its summons and issue a public apology to Hajat Stecia Mayanja for what they perceive as an attempt to interfere with her legitimate professional engagements.
This development highlights a growing tension between political party loyalty and the autonomy of public figures who maintain careers in other fields, raising questions about the extent of a party's authority over its members' external professional activities.
