SOROTI - As the national O-Level exams begin across Uganda, educational leaders in the Teso sub region have issued a strong message to students, resist the temptation of turning to social media for exam answers. With the exams starting today, October 10th with briefyings, and theory papers scheduled for October 13th, students have been cautioned against the growing trend of online fraud and misinformation related to exam answers.

Wilfred Oluka Okeriau, the headteacher of Soroti Secondary School, emphasized the risks posed by social media during this crucial period. "In this digital age, students are often targeted by individuals who post fake exam answers online, claiming they are the correct solutions for the O-Level papers. This is a dangerous trap," Oluka explained. He urged students to focus on their own knowledge and the preparation they have received from their teachers, rather than seeking shortcuts through social media.

Okeriau also addressed the security measures being taken to prevent cheating during the exams. "We have made it clear that no phones will be allowed in the examination halls. Invigilators will ensure that all students focus on the exam without distractions," he said.

In a similar vein, Bertha Asekenye, the headteacher of Jeressah High School, offered words of encouragement to her students, urging them to trust in their own abilities. "Our students are well prepared and ready to face the exams. The common anxieties that often arise during this time are nowhere to be seen," Asekenye remarked. She further assured parents and the community that the school had taken every step to ensure that students are mentally and academically ready.

Asekenye also noted that the school had conducted a series of motivational talks and prayers for the students, aiming to boost their confidence and morale. "We believe in the abilities of our students, and we are optimistic they will pass with flying colors," she added.

Both schools, along with many others in the region, have joined forces to remind students of the importance of academic integrity and self-reliance during the exam period. The O Level examinations are a critical stepping stone for students' future education and career opportunities, and the message from educators is clear: trust in the preparation you have done, and resist the lure of false promises on social media.

As students across Teso prepare for the challenges of the next few days, teachers and school leaders continue to rally behind them, ensuring they are well equipped to succeed through hard work, discipline, and dedication.
