Kalaki District — Independent candidate Christine Acan has pledged to prioritize education, farmer support, and infrastructure development as she campaigns for the Woman Member of Parliament seat for Kalaki District.

Acan, who has previously contested for the position two times under the National Resistance Movement (NRM), is now running as an independent candidate, using the symbol of a clock to represent progress and timely action for the district.

Speaking today to media, Acan expressed appreciation for President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership, while noting that the voices of ordinary citizens are often overlooked in legislative processes. She cited the example of the bill on trying civilians in court, emphasizing that public opinions were not adequately considered.

“We need leaders who not only pass bills but also ensure that the people’s voices are heard,” Acan said.

Education is a cornerstone of Acan’s campaign. She highlighted the challenges facing schools in Kalaki, including teacher strikes and limited engagement from current leaders.

“I will work closely with teachers and school administrators to ensure quality education. Leaders must lead by example — visiting schools, understanding their challenges, and supporting both teachers and students,” she said.

Acan also underscored the importance of farmer support and women empowerment. Drawing on her experience as a businesswoman in the produce sector, she pledged to organize women into self-help groups and advocate for the revival of cooperatives to help farmers access fair markets and grow their incomes.

“Farmers are often exploited, and that must stop. Cooperatives can play a vital role in ensuring farmers benefit from their hard work,” she noted.

The independent candidate also raised concerns about Kalaki’s poor road network, which she said hinders trade, access to education, and overall development.

“Improved roads will connect communities, facilitate trade, and open up opportunities for growth,” Acan said.

Acan concluded by emphasizing unity between the district’s Iteso and Kumam communities, pledging to work towards collective development.

“Kalaki’s progress depends on the cooperation of all its people. Together, we can build a district that prospers socially, economically, and culturally,” she stated.

With a campaign centered on education, infrastructure, and grassroots economic empowerment, Christine Acan aims to bring a fresh voice and practical solutions to Kalaki District in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
