Residents of Aloet Ward in Soroti City East have expressed deep frustration over what they describe as long standing neglect under the current opposition leadership. Speaking during an interview, community members highlighted a series of challenges that have affected their livelihoods, including lack of access to clean water, unreliable power supply, and the absence of a functional health facility within the area.
According to the residents, water scarcity remains one of the most pressing concerns, forcing families to travel long distances in search of safe drinking water. They noted that the situation has deteriorated over the years, adding that they now prefer leaders with a clear and visionary development agenda to transform their communities. The residents also raised concerns about the lack of electricity in several villages, saying the absence of power has greatly limited their ability to preserve food, run small businesses, and improve household incomes.
Health access was another major challenge cited, as residents lamented the absence of a hospital or health center in Aloet Ward. Many said that seeking medical attention often requires traveling to distant facilities, a situation they described as both costly and risky, especially during emergencies.
Parliamentary candidate Isaac Orego, who is seeking to represent Soroti City East, pledged to advocate for the establishment of a hospital in Aloet to improve healthcare delivery. He criticized the current state of the ward, stating that its poor roads, lack of electricity, and limited access to water demonstrate a leadership vacuum that must be urgently addressed. Orego promised that if elected, he would champion development programs aimed at restoring dignity and services to the people of Aloet.
Woman MP candidate for Soroti City, Sarah Inachu, also vowed to prioritize community empowerment, particularly for women. She pledged to push for the celebration of International Women’s Day in Soroti City, an event she said has never been recognized under the current opposition leadership. Inachu further committed to supporting women’s SACCOs to boost financial independence and uplift household incomes.
Residents expressed hope that the upcoming election will usher in leaders capable of delivering tangible improvements, noting that Aloet Ward deserves equal access to essential services like other parts of the city.
